Universal Soyuz
The launch vehicle that failed on October 15 in Plesetsk was first launched in 1973. This article code-named 11A511U ('U' for Universal) replaced earlier versions of the Soyuz vehicle. In thirty years, 715 such launch vehicles were launched, 695 of them successfully. Thimothy Varfolomeyev gives very detailed description of the 11A511U launch vehicle.
